Purple Logs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

First design in a new series is very interesting .

I like the second design too.

Notice that the blocks with half dark and half light strips around them start with darks strips added to the centre square first. I am using blocks started with the light colour first as well as starting with dark, but the design above has all blocks starting by adding dark to the centre first.

Lots of floating dark triangles are now possible.

Floating dark squares too! Small differences, but fun to play with.

More Log cabin designs mid week, next week.

Dear, Dear it;s Quilted 29, 30 from Virtual Quilter

Small blocks, large quilt leaves lots of spaces to play with design, including some plain spaces for quilting to feature.

Lots of quilting, not a lot of tiny pieces.

12P Collection 7, 8 from Virtual Quilter

I like the first design, but as usual I spotted a change I would make as soon as I opened it. Seeing changes I think might work are how I keep adding to the collection of designs I have to show here every day. The centre block could be changed to make a fifth open space to add some interesting quilting or applique.

I like the second design too. Plenty of space to add some interesting quilting.

Logs on Point + 111, 112, 113, 114, 115 from Virtual Quilter

Playing with assorted variations of the Log Cabin block can lead to many, many quilt designs.

Some of them are weird, but interesting!

Some of them just interesting like the one above, which I like a lot..

Another interesting design.

I wonder if I have repeated any designs in this project file. I know i have often added alterations to designs as I add some to the blog, and there are too many to check them off every time I make some slight alteration to see if I like it or not

EQ 9x9s OP 25, 26 from Virtual Quilter

Starry night, even though there are just five star blocks!

I should start a new project file with the same fabric choices as this one, but with all star blocks.

9 Patch Night Vision 17, 18 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting, but the corners of the blocks overpower the rest of the block … perhaps a colour change to make it much paler would make the balance better..

Also interesting. Colour balance is better but not perfect.

Red and White 2 Block OP 33, 34 from Virtual Quilter

A very interesting design.

I opened this project file after letting it rest in peace for several years as I recently noticed a reference to the red and white exhibition of quilts several years ago.

I am not as impressed by the second design.

Tatiara Terrace Stars 11, 12 from Virtual Quilter

My Dad’s favourite colour was green, the colour of grass growing.

Like both of today’s selection of designs, and not going to pick a favourite.

My apologies for not programming the daily dose of virtual quilt designs over the last few days … we went on a road trip and I didn’t turn the computer on, but we did visit Tatiara Terrace.

Red and White Log Jam 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 from Virtual Quilter

Three different colorings of the basic Log Cabin block used in this project file, the half and half light and dark block, plus all light and all dark.

The first design has 16 all light, four all dark, the rest half and half.

The second has just four dark blocks.

Twelve dark, twelve light ….

… eight all dark.

Sixteen light and four dark in the last design.

Challenge for me … I have been avoiding having multi coloured blocks, but sometime between now and Christmas I will add green and white blocks to the red and white, all red and all white ...

Hi 5s 53, 54 from Virtual Quilter

These designs use 5 Patch blocks, plus some blank spaces. I like empty spaces to show off quilting, but it also helps to show off the design created with the pieced blocks.

The second design doesn’t have blank blocks, but it still has spaces for some creative quilting.

Red, Black and White 11, 12 from Virtual Quilter

I am trying to break away from pink, purple and green!

This project file has been sitting around being ignored for two years, probably because it is in colors I wouldn’t want to live with. However, strong colours in a dull environment can liven up the surroundings.

I love the second design, but I admit that it would lose a lot of impact if it was in my preferred colour range.

Interesting!

Love the second design.

The blocks in this series have a lot of pieces, but there are no set in pieces, but there are some sharp points.

TNT Logs 66, 67, 68, 69, 70 from Virtual Quilter

Sixty four identical blocks can be twisted and turned every which way to create a multitude of designs.

The second design has a few blocks twisted, but all of them have the light and dark sides opposite …

… but with the light and dark swapped back to the same as the first design.

Once again the dark colour is prominent, with a few blocks turned around …

… and with the light color prominent.

Logs at Lochiel 41, 42, 43, 44, 45 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting design.

Same layout, same fabrics but different blocks.

Log Cabin quilts in old favourite layouts with good use of colour and contrast always catch my eye, but with the same care in choosing fabrics and mixing up the blocks you can create totally new designs.

The one above is very interesting.

The one above is almost a very common layout of 64 identical blocks, but it creates a different look with 16 blocks turned inside out.

That is all for this week, but mid week, next week there will be another selection of Log Cabin quilt designs to challenge ...

Beetaloo Logs 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 from Virtual Quilter

Hot cross buns are now in the shops, so I thought I would add a touch of green as a reminder that St Patrick’s Day comes before Easter on the calendar.

It is also a reminder that the weeds are growing at a great rate and today starting off cool could be a good chance to get rid of a few,

In this project file I am trying not to make big, obvious changes to the way the Log Cabin blocks are placed. I was going to limit it to just 8 blocks getting to do a twist but ...

Log Cabin 51, 52, 53, 54, 55 from Virtual Quilter

I share a lot of Log Cabin variations, and this project file is the most basic of them all.

The same block repeated over and over again, twisted and turned to create different designs.

I love some of the very basic traditional layouts, but it is so easy to place a few blocks inside out to create something different.

Even if you use exactly the same fabrics as others to make the blocks, you can make your blocks into something different.

I like the last two most of this week’s Log Cabin designs.

More Log Cabin designs, mid week ...
